This paper explores the enduring intellectual relevance of Italian humanist philosophy—from the Civic Humanism of the Renaissance to the political theory of Niccolò Machiavelli, the historical hermeneutics of Giambattista Vico, and the cultural hegemony framework of Antonio Gramsci. By contrasting Mediterranean humanism with hyper-rationalist and utilitarian models of education, this study formulates a modern paradigm for civic engagement, historical consciousness, and critical pedagogy in higher education. Furthermore, it evaluates the challenges of digital culture, heritage preservation, and ethical governance in contemporary Europe, demonstrating that Italian critical traditions provide essential conceptual tools for sustaining democratic life and human dignity.
