This article seeks to uncover the mechanisms of meaning formation in Algerian literary discourse through the 0interaction of language with different levels of context: textual, social, cultural, and historical. The study proceeds from the hypothesis that meaning is not a ready-made given inherent in isolated linguistic units, but rather a gradual construction shaped through the relations linking words within the text, and through the text's interaction with its extra-linguistic surroundings. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical method grounded in discourse analysis, drawing on a representative corpus of three Algerian literary genres, poetry, narrative, and drama, in order to identify points of convergence and divergence in how meaning is formed across these modes. The study concludes that literary meaning is multi-layered, moving from the level of the word to the sentence, then the passage, then the discourse as a whole, and that the distinct nature of each literary genre entails a corresponding difference in how context operates to shape meaning.
